What is new in IRS Tax Payments?

Now you could use your Credit or Debit card to pay the 2290 tax with the IRS. Earlier it was Direct Debit (EFW), EFTPS and Check/Money Order were available to pick. No from this new tax period July 2018 – June 2019, IRS will accept Credit or Debit cards.

Pay Your Taxes by Debit or Credit Card 

You can pay from your credit or debit card when you e-file, your 2290 truck tax returns. It’s safe and secure – the IRS uses standard service providers and business/commercial card networks, and your information is used solely to process your payment.

Your payment will be processed by a payment processor who will charge a processing fee. The fees vary by service provider and may be tax deductible. No part of the service fee goes to the IRS. Your information is used solely to process your payment.

Other Payment options are:

Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) also referred as Direct Debit, is an integrated e-file/e-pay option offered when filing your federal taxes using tax preparation software or through a tax professional. You would be sharing your Bank Account Number, Bank Name, Routing Number while you efile your 2290 returns, IRS will directly debit your account for the tax amount. This is the recommended payment option as it is more easy and quick.

Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) is a system for paying federal taxes electronically using the Internet, or by phone using the EFTPS Voice Response System. EFTPS is offered free by the U.S. Department of Treasury. Offers you the convenience and flexibility of making your tax payments via the Internet or phone. You can initiate your tax payment from your home or office, 24/7.

However pre-enrollment is required to use EFTPS. It might take up to 15 days to establish a new account with the EFTPS to make your payment through this channel, using your bank account and credit or debit card.

Check or Money Order:

You still can use this traditional way of paying your taxes. If you pay by check or money order, make sure it is payable to the “United States Treasury.” Always attach your Form 2290-V Payment Voucher, send your check or money order with your correct legal name of the business, name, address, EIN and a daytime telephone number, tax year and form number.
